Whether building new, renovating or simply looking to replace a piece of equipment, more and more facility executives are considering green as an option. But researching green products can represent a serious commitment of time and often can lead to frustration. Frequently, it's easier (and cheaper) to go with a comfortable, proven solution.
But as we learned in publishing this first Green Product Directory, manufacturers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their approach to educating end users about a product's green attributes. In the past, using the term "environmentally friendly" might have sufficed, and manufacturers assumed that would be enough to hook potential buyers. Not anymore.
A growing number of manufacturers understand that savvy buyers see through green marketing rhetoric. These buyers are looking for everything from a green certification or label to an explanation of how a product can contribute to a building's or an interior space's LEED rating.
We hope the Green Product Directory is one resource for facility executives with specific green purchasing criteria. As always, we're interested in your feedback. We're hoping to discover ways to improve the directory for next year. Let us know what you think of this year's effort and if there's anything that would have made the directory more complete and easier to use. I look forward to hearing from you.
